Cornell & Diehl Black Frigate is a distinctive Royal Navy / English-style blend based on C&D’s Navy Cavendish — Virginias soaked and aged in rum — combined with Latakia and Oriental/Turkish tobaccos and pressed into an old-fashioned Crumble Cake. The rum-aged Virginias provide natural sweetness, dark-fruit character and a warm rum note, while Latakia contributes smoky, woody, leathery and earthy depth. Oriental/Turkish tobaccos add dry, herbal and spicy complexity. Rather than being a straightforward Latakia-heavy English mixture, Black Frigate balances the sweet richness of a traditional Navy blend with the smoky and spicy character of an English mixture, resulting in a complex, medium-strength but richly flavored tobacco.
