Special Brown Flake is a classic Navy Flake from Fribourg & Treyer, combining Red Virginia, Mottled Virginia, Golden Carolina Flue-Cured, small amounts of Turkish Havana and Dark Fired Kentucky, and a subtle touch of Navy Rum. After the leaves are allowed to marry, the blend is cold-pressed for several weeks to harmonize the flavors and create a slow-burning flake. The smoke centers on mature Virginia sweetness with notes of raisins, dark fruit, bread, toast, and gentle earthiness, while the Navy Rum adds a delicate boozy sweetness and the Dark Fired Kentucky contributes subtle smoky, woody depth. Medium in strength with a mature and naturally sweet character, Special Brown Flake is particularly well suited to smokers who appreciate traditional Virginia flakes with restrained rum character and added depth from darker tobaccos.
