Samuel Gawith St. James Plug is a classic and remarkably pure Virginia/Perique (VaPer) tobacco and the uncut Plug version of the celebrated St. James Flake. It combines selected Virginias with a generous proportion of genuine St. James Parish, Louisiana Perique, traditionally pressed into a dense plug with no detectable added flavoring. Virginia provides mature natural sweetness with bready, grassy, citrusy, woody and dark-fruit nuances, while Perique contributes distinctive plum, fig, raisin and fermented-fruit character together with peppery spice. Compared with the sliced Flake version, the Plug tends to develop a rounder, deeper and sweeter character, with the fruity qualities of the Perique becoming particularly expressive. Medium in strength but rich in flavor, St. James Plug is an excellent traditional VaPer for smokers who appreciate natural tobacco and the ritual of preparing plug tobacco themselves.
